Calderhead High School parent council meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm in the school. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of their meetings. Shotts and District Rotary Club have their meetings every Wednesday evening in the Station Hotel, Shotts. EU Congregati­onal Church is open for prayer and reflection on Wednesdays, from 11am with a short service held at 11.30am until 12pm. This is followed by soup, tea and a chat in the large church hall from 12pm to 1pm. Ladies fellowship meets at the church on Fridays at 10.30am. On Sunday morning, the morning service is at 11.30am and singing group meets on Tuesdays at 7pm. Salvation Army Corps the friendship club meets on Tuesdays, from 1pm to 3pm. The youth club meets on Wednesdays at 6pm to 8pm. The toddlers group meet on Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am, and prayer meetings are held that evening at 7pm. Friday Club and JAM Club gather from 5.45pm to 7.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am and is led by Major Chris Lee, and will include the enrolment of two adherents this week. The function hall is available to hire for events and weddings. This week vocalist Liz Clarke will be in the lounge from 9pm on Saturday. Bingo is played at 8pm on Wednesday and Friday and on Saturday at 10pm. The club will be hosting A Day With Scotland’s Top Stars in aid of the Moira Anderson Foundation on May 27 from 1pm to 8pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the club. 32 Social Club has entertainm­ent for members and guests as follows. The Demonstrat­ion 2018 fundraiser, which will take the form of a race night and disco, featuring the Dykehead Amateur Flute Band takes place this Friday, May 18, starting at 7pm with the first race at 8pm; tickets are £2 each. On Saturday, June 2, there is a Crown and Tiara dance, in celebratio­n of the Queen’s Corona- tion Sapphire Jubilee with dancing to Gee Jay Wilson. Tickets are now on sale at the club for both of these events. Lodge St John 471 The regular meetings of the lodge are now in recess, and will resume later in the year. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. Slimming group has classes every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5pm and 7pm in Epic Studios, Shottskirk Road (above Ladbrokes at Dykehead Cross). Everyone going along will be made most welcome. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for ages eight to 11, Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12 noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds at 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there is a class for ages 12 and upwards. Additional classes can be scheduled based on demand. Wishaw, Murdostoun and Fortissat Community Forum meets monthly on the last Thursday of each month at 6.30pm. The group welcomes representa­tives from each of the areas, which includes the greater Shotts area. If you represent a community group, do come along. Everyone is welcome to come along. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 3pm; and the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm. Advice and informatio­n is available on issues such as DSS benefits, aids and adaptation­s, home assessment­s, housing benefit and council tax. Home visits can be arranged for people who are housebound and unable to access services. There is also an experience­d signer who can assist people who have speech or hearing difficulti­es. Ironworks Bowling Club The winner of last week’s two-bowl singles match was A Anderson, with runner-up of C McCool. The next Burgh game between Shotts and Wishaw will be played on the green tonight at 6.30pm. There is dancing to Satisfacti­on at 8.30pm on Saturday and bingo at 9.30pm, with bingo and dancing to Billy’s One Man band the following week. Please not there is a change to the advertised band on July 21, with Jack Clark now performing instead of Gee Jay Wilson. Dates to look out for include Scott Lee on August 11 and October 13, with Gee Jay Wilson on September 8. Normal door fees of £1.50 will apply for these acts. Orders are now being taken for Kukri Shirts and a sheet can be found in the clubhouse for anyone interested to append their names and relevant sizes. The cost is £ 16.50 plus VAT, which should be paid to Pat Watters, the club treasurer. Closing date for orders will be May 31. Calderhead Erskine Parish Church The usual Sunday worship times at both Shotts and Allanton churches are 11am and 12.30pm respective­ly. The Kirk Session has appointed Rev Iain Murdoch to act as locum minister for Calderhead Erskine Parish Church of Scotland. Please also let him know of anyone who is sick at home or in hospital and in need of pastoral care. Allanton

Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche is at 12.30pm in the church on Sunday. Mother and toddlers group meet at 9.30am in the church hall on Thursdays and the women’s guild gather in the annex that afternoon at 2pm. Street dance classes are held in the church hall on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm and at 7pm to 8pm. All welcome. Youth group meets from 7pm to 9pm on Fridays in the senior citizen centre. All will be made welcome. Tenants’ and residents’ associatio­n held their annual general meeting on Monday of this week in the senior citizen centre. The associatio­n are looking for new members, especially younger members of the community to come along and join them at their meetings, where all will be made welcome. Miners’ Social Club Entertainm­ent at the club this week begins with a double session of bingo on Thursday night, followed by play your cards right. The country music night on Saturday will see entertainm­ent provided by Carson City, with the fabulous Billy Meredith performing in the lounge that night; entry is £3. Sunday night sees dancing to Bill McFarlane; the cost of admission is £2. The fantastic psychic and spiritual medium, Craig Leckie and Friends, will be appearing at the club on Friday, July 20; tickets cost £10, and these will be going on sale soon.
