Calderhead High School parent council meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm in the school. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of the group’s meetings. The parent council also have a Twitter account “@Calderhead­PC” and the minutes of meetings can be found on the school’s website. Shotts and District Rotary Club have their meetings every Wednesday evening in the Station Hotel, Shotts. EU Congregati­onal Church is open for prayer and reflection on Wednesdays, from 11am with a short service at 11.30am until 12pm. This is followed by soup, tea and a chat which is served in the large hall of the church from noon to 1pm. On Sunday, the morning service is at 11.30am and singing group meets on Tuesdays at 7pm. Salvation Army Corps the friendship club meets on Tuesdays, from 1pm to 3pm. On Wednesday, the youth club gathers at 6pm to 8pm. The toddlers’ group is held on Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am. Prayer meetings take place on Thursday evenings at 7pm. Friday Club and JAM Club take place from 5.45pm to 7.45pm. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so do get in touch if you would like to hold an event there. The function hall is available to hire for events and weddings. Tickets are on sale for the upcoming Demonstrat­ion 2018 fundraiser, featuring Bobby Parks and the Prince of Wales accordion band next Saturday, June 23. Lodge St John 471 The regular meetings of the lodge are now in recess and will resume later in the year. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. Slimming group has classes every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5pm and 7pm in Epic Studios, Shottskirk Road (above Ladbrokes at Dykehead Cross). Everyone going along will be made most welcome. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for ages eight to 11, Tuesdays from 10.30am to noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds at 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there is a class for ages 12 and upwards. Additional classes can be scheduled based on demand. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 3pm; the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm. The next competitio­n’s being played at the club will be the Bowls Scotland men’s district final at 6.30pm on Friday. Followed by the gents two bowl pairs at 1pm on the Saturday. The Bowls Scotland district finals will be played at 6.30pm next Monday, June 18. And the ladies civic day pairs will be played on Wednesday, June 20, at 10am, culminatin­g with the gents civic invitation triples at 10am on Saturday, June 23. This game is being sponsored by local company, Nicol Boilers. The bus will leave from the club at noon on Sunday, June 24 for the Bannockbur­n vs Shotts friendly. There will be bingo and dancing to W McFarlane on Saturday, with dancing to Satisfacti­on the following week and dancing to Johnny Weir on June 30. Look out for the following acts which will be coming soon: Jackie Clarke on July 21, Lee Scott on August 11, Gee Jay Wilson on September 8 and Lee Scott on October 13.

Allanton

Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche will be held in the church at 12.30pm on Sunday. Mother and toddlers’ group meets in Allanton Church hall on Tuesdays at 9.30am. Street dance classes are held in the church hall on Thursdays at 6pm to 7pm and from 7pm to 8pm. Youth group meets in the senior citizens’ centre on Fridays at 7pm to 9pm, and new members will be made welcome. Miners’ Social Club There is a double session of bingo followed by play your cards right on Thursdays; a country band on Saturdays, and dancing on Sunday nights to Bill McFarlane. Spirituali­st, psychic and medium Craig Leckie and friends will be performing a show on July 20; tickets cost £10. Tickets for this event are limited; contact Karen or Davie if you are interested in attending the show.
