Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church A very busy weekend is ahead for all at the church. As part of the national Weekend of Invitation, all are welcome to come along and join in a quiz and curry night on Friday (pasta alternativ­e available). The fun begins at 6.30pm and all ages are welcome. Then on Saturday there will be an afternoon tea from 2pm until 4pm in the large church hall. Finishing the day with a family film night at 6.30pm when the animated movie Ferdinand will be shown. (Bring your own bean bags.) Sunday morning worship at 11am is open to all with an invitation to come and share in this special service. Entry to all of the above events is free. The morning service includes British Sign Language signing and electronic note taking to assist those who are deaf or hard of hearing. It is also available online live at www.dalzielsta­ndrews. org.uk or for catch-up later on You Tube. The next messy church event will take place at the usual time of 3.30pm next Sunday, June 24. It will focus on young families and with crafts, games, fun and refreshmen­ts available. Finishing with a barbecue at 5pm, weather permitting. All will be most welcome with no charge being made for attendance. Anyone wishing to attend this event should register at the church’s website for catering purposes. The spring session of the Sunday school and Fusion Bible class will conclude on Sunday, June 24. Throughout the summer months there is still an opportunit­y for youngsters to come along to the church and attend the creche or summer Sunday school. It will begin on July 1 and run each week throughout the summer and take the theme of emoji Bible stories. There will be lots of activities and snacks available for all. The congregati­onal board meets next Thursday, June 28, at 7.30pm. The next community breakfast will take place from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday, June 30. Again it is open to all with no charge made for sharing a cup of tea, hot filled roll and a chat. The annual summer holiday club, Professor Potty’s Time Traveller Tales, will begin on Monday, July 30 until Friday, August 3, starting each day at 11am until 2pm, with free lunch provided. All primary school age children will be made welcome. Lanarkshir­e Family History Society’s next meeting will hear about researchin­g soldiers of the Great War, 1914-19. Ken Nisbet, who compiled the Nairnshire roll of honour of the Great War, has been involved in military research for over 30 years. He will explain how people can research their relatives’ service by looking at the latest online resources and how they can best be used. The talk takes place tomorrow, at 7pm in the GLO Centre, Muir Street, Motherwell. All welcome. This will be the last meeting before their summer break. Monthly meetings resume in September, but the society’s research centre at 122124 Merry Street, Motherwell will remain open during this time. (Enter from the car park at the rear of the building, off Dalziel Street). Opening times are Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from noon to 3pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm to 9pm. Lanarkshir­e Branch Royal Engineers Associatio­n The next branch meeting will be held next Monday, June 18, at Coatdyke indoor bowling club, Coatbridge, starting at 7.30pm. All serving and retired Sappers are welcome to come along to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. All welcome. Holey Soles Rambling Club The club’s next walk on Sunday, June 24 will be from Tindrum to Bridge of Orchy. The coach will leave from outside St Bernadette’s Church hall
