Medal haul for boxers
Two Cleland ABC boxers brought back medals from the Elite GB Tri Nations tournament.
Scott Wotherspoon and Stephanie Kernachan both headed down to Sheffield to compete in the semi-finals.
Scott fought English number one Connor Kelsall in the light flyweight 49kg category and lost on a unanimous decision.
Stephanie then boxed Nina Hughes in the bantamweight 54kg category. She lost the first round but won the second and third and was announced the winner by the compere, only to be called back into the ring to discover she had lost 3-2 on a split decision.
Coach Ronnie Blackburn said:“This was a great achievement by both Scottish champions, who picked up bronze medals.”
Cleland finished the season on a winning note with a treble win at the Cambusnethan home show. Ryan McCabe, Mark McDonald and Martin Stuart McRae all came out on top. Ronnie added:“Well done to all our boxers for a fantastic end to the season The club’s coaches are proud of them all.”
