Hospice walk is a winner

-

Pupils and staff from across the Wishaw area took part in St Andrew’s Hospice’s annual Wear Yellow Walk at Strathclyde Park.

Children from Netherton, Newmains, St Aidan’s, St Patrick’s Primary in Shotts and St Brendan’s in Motherwell walked 6K around Strathclyde Country Park in glorious weather, wearing their yellow hats with pride.

Host DJ Steve McKenna got everyone warmed-up and ready for the walk while X Factor finalists The Cutkelvins were also on hand to get everyone dancing in the summer sunshine.

The hospice’s schools and development co-ordinator Andrew Flynn said: “It was absolutely brilliant to see so many pupils and staff coming along to support the work of St Andrew’s Hospice.

“We are so proud to be part of the amazing Lanarkshire Schools community that year after year take their fundraising that extra mile by taking part in our events.

“We would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to take part and we hope they had a fantastic time raising vital funds for the hospice.

“The money raised from this event will help us to continue to provide specialist palliative care to patients and their families from across North and South Lanarkshire.

“Our fundraising team have to raise £88,000 every week to maintain these vital care services and we couldn’t continue to do this without the amazing support of our local communities who continue to attend our events and donate so generously to our hospice.”
