Thank you Wishaw as moggy buzzes back

Family delight that pet is back home

- Niki Tennant

A grateful Glasgow family have said a heartfelt thank you to the people of Wishaw after finally being reunited with their beloved cat.

Denise and Iain Cairns, along with daughters Hallie and Heidi, had been distraught since Buzz apparently jumped into double glazing van outside the family home in Ruchill almost two months ago and embarked on a trip to North Lanarkshire where he was seen by the driver scampering off in the direction of Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park.

Every day for over seven weeks, nursery school worker Denise made the 46- mile return journey to Wishaw where she searched painstakingly for Buzz, delivering leaflets to houses near the park, talking to locals and pinning up posters in the hope that her beloved pet would be found.

Her efforts were finally rewarded when she received a late night text from Wishaw resident Abigail Porter who thought she had seen a cat matching Buzz’s description in Meadowburn Road.

Abigail sent Denise a photo of the cat she had seen and, although the picture wasn’t particularly clear, Denise made a midnight dash down the M74.

With the help of Abigail, Abigails’s gran Mary Nelson and neighbour Andrea Dickson, she managed to locate Buzz in the garden which is shared by Mary and Andrea before taking him home.

It seems the tearaway tabby had been living wild in the nature park.

“He’s lost a bit of weight during his Wishaw adventure but I’ve taken him to the vet and there are no major ill effects,” said a delighted Denise, who never gave up in the hunt for threeyear-old Buzz.

“The people of Wishaw have been amazing. Throughout my seven week search, I’ve had unbelievable levels of help and assistance from everyone I’ve encountered.

“As well as Abigail, Mary and Andrea, I’d like to thank Fiona Halliday from Carluke who does voluntary work for a charity called Harvey’s Army which helps people find their lost pets.

“Fi o na ha s b e e n exceptionally helpful and supportive and has given up a lot of her spare time to help me find Buzz.

“My girls are delighted to have him back and, needless to say, he won’t be going outside for a while - especially if there are vans in the street!

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you Wishaw.”

The people of Wishaw have been amazing.”
