Man arrested over alleged assaults on police officers

A 26-year-old Wishaw man was arrested for a number of alleged offences in Motherwell including a serious assault.

The man was also reported to the procurator fiscal for two alleged assaults, breach of the peace, two assaults on police and resisting arrest.

The incidents allegedly took place at 10.10pm on Saturday at Cairnlea Gardens, Bellvue Crescent, Orbiston and Motherwell Police Office.

He was held in custody pending his appearance at court.

Meanwhile, four men were arrested by police following an incident in Newmains.

Two Wishaw men aged 29 and 30, a 35-year-old man from Newmains and a 30-year-old Wishaw woman were reported tothe procurator fiscal for a number of alleged offences including breach of the peace and being in possession of a blade in a public place.

The alleged incident happened at 4.20pm on Saturday at Muirhouse Avenue.

Two Wisham men, aged 30 and 29, along with two Newmains men aged 24 and 44, were arrested for the alleged possession of an offensive weapon, breach of the peace and driving without a licence and insurance.

The alleged incident happened at 8.40pm on Saturday at Muirhouse Avenue. They were held in custody pending appearance at court.

Finally, a 20-year-old Motherwell man was arrested for an alleged assault, breach of the peace, resisting arrest, possession of Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

The alleged incident took place at 11.20pm on Saturday at Glencairn Street, Motherwell.
