Well deserved award for outstanding work

Rosie bags top gong

- Ben Ramage

An innovative Motherwell care home worker’s hard work has seen her pick up a UK- wide award for her unique and engaging work.

Parksprings care home activity co- ordinator Rosie Brennan was “over the moon” when she found out she had won the Most Innovative Activities Programme award at the 2018 Maria Mallaband and Countrywide Care Awards, held in Leeds.

“The whole night was absolutely brilliant,” Rosie said.

“We went down to Leeds and it was just so exciting. There was a big ball and everyone was dressed up for the Hollywood Stars theme.

“I was through to the final six in the whole of Britain. When our pictures appeared on the big screen it was so nerve-wracking and when I was announced the winner I was so surprised.

“I had no idea whatsoever I was going to win and the whole night was just brilliant. I’ve got a big crystal trophy and I’m honestly just still on a high from it all!”

After being nominated by fellow staff, residents, families and healthcare professionals, caring Rosie reduced the judges to tears during her assessment, which highlighted her ability to provide a needs led, varied and appropriate programme for residents.

She selflessly dedicated the award to the entire team at Parksprings Care Home.

She said: “Everyone at the home has been so wonderful about it. The director of the company said they were so proud of me. I’m proud but I’m really so delighted for the home. Everyone works so hard and this is for all of us.”

The awards, now in their fourth year, recognise exceptional practice from staff who are committed to improving the lives of people living in residential care.

Rosie was also commended for her work towards further developing community links at the home.
