Maguire re-signs but Cadden’s future remains unclear

-

Barry Maguire has extended his stay with Motherwell for next season.

The central defender, who made his first team debut towards the end of last campaign, has signed a new one-year deal.

Maguire, 20, has made three appearances in claret and amber to date.

“I am delighted to be staying with the club,”he said after signing on.“I got a taste of first team football last season and felt I handled it well.

”My goal now is to try and stay in the manager’s thoughts and get into the team.”

Manager Stephen Robinson added:“Barry has shown he has the ability to step up to the first team and give us further options at centre back.”

Meanwhile prized asset Chris Cadden’s future hangs in the balance with Wigan and Millwall both credited as joining the hunt for the young winger.

The Steelmen value their Scotland star at £1 million, but the English Championship clubs are set to test their resolve at £500,000.

Cadden, 21, has a year left on his deal and his fine form at club level led to a call-up from Alex McLeish for Scotland’s trip to the Americas.

He made his debut as a sub in the 2-0 defeat against Peru in Lima and also came off the bench in the 1-0 reverse against Mexico at the Azteca.

‘Well may look to cash in rather than risk losing him for a compensation sum next year.

Motherwell’s young midfielder Shea Gordon has joined Patrick Thistle on loan for the whole of the 2018/19 season.
