Holiday hell dad is back home

- Ross Thomson

A Wishaw dad-of-five has returned home after being stuck in a Spanish hospital since falling seriously ill while on holiday.

William Dobbin, from Netherton, took unwell in Majorca with an inflamed pancreas while abroad with wife Laura and their two boys Ross and Daniel.

The 37-year-old’s family were hit with a crippling £16,000 bill when their insurance company refused to pay out.

Thankfully, William was given the green light to fly home last Friday and is now starting his road to recovery in Monklands Hospital.

As William’s family wrangled with the insurers and the British Consulate as he had been given the all clear from pancreatitis in 2015, a crowdfunding page was set up by Laura’s friend Kiera Ward in a bid to get William, , who is also dad to twin girls Chloe and Danielle, 12, and 14-year-old stepson Daniel, home.

The page has raised more than £5700 with the remainder of the cash being raised by William’s family.

Speaking this week, Kiera thanked everyone who donated to the fundraising page which remains open for the time being.

She said:“We can’t thank everyone enough for the support and amazing donations.

“Everyone has been so supportive. It’s been wonderful to see. A massive thanks to everyone.

“I’m just delighted that William is back home. The family are hoping to have him moved to the hospital in Wishaw when his condition improves .”
