Cops and council car crackdown is needed

Readers want drivers to kill their speed

Police and the council have vowed to slow down drivers as shock new figures reveal speeding has increased by nearly a third in Wishaw and Motherwell.

The drive, launched by the council and Police Scotland, is hoping to tackle concerns raised by residents who called for action to make roads safer.

We took to the streets of Wishaw to find out if our readers thought speeding was a priority.

aware of drivers who speed. They just don’t care.”

Jim Forrest, from Shotts, thinks speeding is a major problem around his home. “The speeding up our way is terrible,” said Jim. “The problem is that it’s not just happening in Shotts but everywhere.”

Ian Cuthbertso­n agreed saying: “Speeding drivers are a real danger. Some people drive like a bat out of hell.”

Ian’s wife Joyce named two streets which are particular­ly bad.

“It’s shocking. You can see them belting down Old Manse Road and Netherton Street,” said Joyce.

“I’m surprised no-one has been killed there.”
