Trouble brewing

-

The incidents in Coltness first came to light when we revealed kids as young as nine were running amok in Coldstream Crescent and Greenlaw Avenue.

Coltness Community Council chairman John Carr told thewishaw Press that some pensioners feel like prisoners in their own home as a result of the trouble.

He said:“people have approached me to say there are elderly people too scared to go out to the shops.

“It’s not even teenagers causing the problems, it’s kids aged around nine and 10 giving people grief.

“How can you deal with kids that age?the residents feel under pressure.”

The council’s antisocial behaviour team and police officers confirmed they had to deal with several incidents in streets over the past few weeks.

The council’s head of housing services, Stephen Llewellyn, said: “We will continue to take appropriate action to assist tenants experiencing issues with anti-social behaviour.

“We will not tolerate incidents that have a negative impact on residents and we work with Police Scotland, the local community and private landlords to take action against those responsible.”

And last week, we revealed an antisocial family causing chaos in Stobo Street were slapped with an eviction notice.

The family were given 14 days to evict the property.

Terrified neighbours claim the “aggressive and rude”family had made their lives a misery for years.

They blame the troublemakers for ripping the door off a close, damaging an intercom system, smashing windows and spraying walls with graffiti.

One resident, who did not wish to be named for fear of repercussions, said:“we’re living a nightmare. It’s horrible.

“Most of us can’t even walk out our front doors without abuse getting hurled at us.we’re scared for our well-being.

“The family are rude, aggressive and disrespectful.

“It’s a horrible place to live. Most of us who live here own our flats, so it’s not like we can request a new place.

“We’re stuck and at the end of our tether.”
