Charity nomination The 1st Shotts Girls’ Brigade Company is in the running for this year’s Asda Foundation’s Green Token giving award. Nomination­s for all the local groups involved can be found on the notice board, which is located near the exit of the Newmains branch of Asda. Ironworks Bowling Club Closing Day game promiscuou­s starts at the club at 2pm this Saturday. There will be bingo and dancing in the evening to Billy’s One Man Band, with bingo and dancing to Willie Mack the following week on September 29. Calderhead Erskine Church The Kirk Session has now appointed Rev Iain Murdoch as locum minister for Shotts Calderhead Erskine Parish Church of Scotland. Please also let him know of anyone who is sick at home or in hospital. Services at Calderhead Erskine church commence at 11am every Sunday in Shotts and 12.30pm in Allanton. Marble Club Entertainm­ent begins with bingo in the lounge on Sundays at 1.30pm, and on Mondays and Thursdays in the main hall at 9pm. A September weekend special this Saturday will see instrument­al duo, Justuz (formerly Miami) plus fantastic vocalist, Liz Clark, from 3pm to 7pm. Tickets, priced £6, are on sale from the bar or from Caledonian Music Agency. Boys’ Brigade Company meets in Allanton Church hall on Tuesdays, with Explorers gathering at 6pm to 7.15pm, Seniors at 7pm to 8.30pm, and Brigaders from 7pm to 8.30pm. New members welcome to come along and join any of the above groups. Street dance class is held in the hall of Allanton church at 5.30pm to 7pm on Thursdays. New members welcome. Coffee morning takes place at Allanton church on Thursday, between 11am and 2pm, in aid of St Andrew Hospice; entrance costs £2. Contact Karen Mcnabe or Linsey Mcgowan for further details. Lunch club continues in the church hall from 12 noon to 1.30pm. It serves two course meals of a main course, with tea/coffee or juice, plus dessert all for the bargain price of £4. A take away service is also available. Everyone welcome. Line dancing class continues on Wednesdays with beginners’ and refreshers’ class at 12.30pm to 1.15pm, followed by the main class from 1.15pm to 2.45pm in the main church hall. All ages and abilities will be made very welcome. Bearsden Fiddlers’ The concert, featuring Scottish traditiona­l music both past and present held in the church recently was a great success. Many thanks are given to the fiddlers and everyone who worked so hard to make the night so successful and to everyone who attended. Women’s group resumes on Wednesday, September 26, in the small church hall at 7.30pm. The first week’s programme is an enrolment night and all ladies in the area are welcome to come along and give it a try. The committee encourage members, both old and new, to come along to enjoy the varied entertainm­ent programme which they have organised for the autumn season. Overtown and Waterloo community council meets in Overtown Community Centre on the first Tuesday in each month at 7.30pm. There is a calendar of events planned, starting with a visit from the Scottish Green Party on October 2. The focus will be on protecting the greenbelt and widlife and how local people can be part of this campaign. The committee look forward to welcoming everyone to what promises to be an informativ­e evening. Community nursery and toddlers still have a few vacancies for this session. They meet Monday to Friday mornings in Overtown Community Centre. Anyone who has a child aged three years up to primary school age, or younger who could enjoy the toddlers’ group, should get in touch with the organisers at the community centre on any week-day morning, between 9am and noon.
