Tough debut conditions
Mark Gillespie was delighted to make his league debut for Motherwell - but wishes it had come about in different circumstances.
The summer recruit came on after 31 minutes after the club’s number one Trevor Carson was stretchered off the Fir Park pitch.
And while former Carlisle United keeper Gillespie wishes he hadn’t been called for as a result of Carson’s injury, he was pleased with his first taste of Scottish Premiership action.
Gillespie said:“it’s not a nice way to come on. I wishtrevor the best. It was a shocking tackle, I think you can see that from the replays.
“It’s unfortunate that the goal stood but for myself it was the first time I’ve really had to come on in the middle of a game and after my first few touches I thought I did ok.
“I contributed a couple of saves in the second half to keep us going.
“I’ll go about my training next week and see what happens.”
Gillespie is certain Motherwell can turn around their fortunes, starting with the tough trip to Aberdeen on Saturday.
He said:“i think we can take positives from it (the Hearts game).
“We were in the game right until the last moment.
“This group of lads are always going to give their all and nobody who came here today can say they didn’t do that.
“The fans got behind us and we’ll move on.”
