Di­a­mond smiles for John and Iso­bel

A Cam­bus­nethan cou­ple have cel­e­brated reach­ing their Di­a­mond Wed­ding an­niver­sary.

Septem­ber 20 marked the day that John and Iso­bel Mur­phy mar­ried 60 years ago.

The Provost of North La­nark­shire Coun­cil Jean Jones and De­pute Lieu­tenant John Brown vis­ited their home in Cam­bus­nethan and pre­sented them with gifts and a card on be­half of coun­cil­lors and the peo­ple of North La­nark­shire Coun­cil.

John and Iso­bel met in 1957. Iso­bel worked with one of John’s sis­ters and vis­ited their house for tea. John was out dig­ging the gar­den when she ar­rived and it was love at first sight.

They mar­ried the fol­low­ing year in St Ig­natius Church in­wishaw and went on to have five chil­dren – John, who sadly died in 1999, Brian, who only lived for three weeks,wil­liam, Kath­leen and Jac­que­line.

Be­fore they re­tired, John worked in the old cream­ery in­wishaw be­fore go­ing on to work in Raven­scraig. Iso­bel worked in the lab at the An­der­son and Robert­son silk fac­tory in Mother­well which has since been closed.

After liv­ing in Colt­ness, John and Iso­bel now live with their daugh­ter Kath­leen in Cam­bus­nethan and have three grand­chil­dren.

After cel­e­brat­ing by hav­ing an ‘open house’day for friends and rel­a­tives, Kath­leen treated them to a break in Ari­saig,west High­lands.
