Police appeal over assault in street

- Ross Thomson

Police officers are releasing an image of a man and a woman they believe may be able to assist their investigation into a serious assault in Motherwell.

Around 9pm on Saturday, September 8, a 60-year-old man was standing on Windmillhill Street near the New Century Bar when he was attacked and left requiring hospital treatment.

Officers believe that the man and woman in the images may have information that can assist them with their enquiries and would ask any members of the public who recognise them to contact them.

The man is described as white, of medium to stocky build, aged between 35 and 45, around 6ft 1in with short light-coloured hair. He is wearing a light coloured shirt, black jacket and jeans. The woman is described as white, aged between 30 and 40, around 5ft 6in with shoulder -length blonde hair and of slim build.

She is wearing a green dress, dark jacket and carrying a black handbag.

PC Stephen Morrison, from Wishaw Police Office, said: “I am appealing to local people who may have seen or heard something who perhaps didn’t realise the relevance at the time. It may not have seemed unusual then but in the context of the crime taking place, it could be vital information which could assist our investigation.

“I would also appeal to anyone who recognises the man and woman, or the people themselves, to contact police at the earliest opportunity.”

Call officers at Wishaw CID via 101, quoting reference number 4275 of Saturday 8 September 2018.

Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where you can give information anonymously.
