An extra special Remembranc­e Day

Services will be held acrosswish­aw and the surroundin­g communitie­s to mark 100 years since the end ofworldwar One.

A century on from the end of the Greatwar, a re-dedication of a memorial to formerwish­aw High pupils who made the ultimate sacrifice will be held at its new home ofwishaw Old Parish Church.

The service begins in the church at 10.30am with the unveiling being carried out by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshir­e Neena Mahal.

The traditiona­l Remembranc­e Day service will take place at the Cenotaph in Belhaven Park at 1pm.

Local churches, politician­s and councillor­s have been invited to lay a wreath.

In Shotts, following the two-minute silence at 11am, wreaths will be laid at the war memorial in High Street.

A short service will then be held with all the local churches and organisati­ons represente­d. A church service will be held in Allanton at 12.30pm. Over in Morningsid­e, a short church service open to all takes place at 10am with the traditiona­l event at the Newmains war memorial at the roundabout being held an hour later.the NCT Centre will be open from 10am with teas and coffees being served.

In Overtown, the Armistice events will begin with a night of nostalgia and Remembranc­e in Overtown Parish Church on Saturday, November 10, from 7pm until 9pm. The evening will feature a selection of music, stories and memorabili­a on display.

On the Sunday, at 6am, along with 1000 pipers across the country, Gemma Mcvey (nee Forbes) will play the air, the Battle’s O’er, from Overtown church, which is traditiona­lly played by pipers after a battle. There will then be a special memorial service at 10.45am.

Then at 6.55pm, in associatio­n with the Airtrainin­g Corps, Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Force, Boys’ Brigade and the Light Infantry Bugler’s Associatio­n, Kai Mcleod of 1st Overtown Boys’brigade will sound the Last Post, on behalf of Overtown Parish Church at 7pm.

A church service in Cleland will be held at 11.45am with the wreath laying at 12.45pm.

In Motherwell, the annual service will be held at the Cenotaph in the Duchess of Hamilton Park at 3pm.the parade will leave the car park at Motherwell United Services Club around 2.30pm.
