Wishaw cup dream dead

-

Lanark United ....... 2 Wishaw Juniors .... 1 Wishaw’s hopes of another great Scottish Cup run were dashed as they landed in a spot of bother against Lanark United.

After the sides drew 1-1 at the Beltane last Saturday, Keiran Mcguinness’s men had goalkeeper Jordan Brown to thank for earning a replay after a stunning penalty save.

But it was two penalties which cost Wishaw in the replay at Moor Park.

Despite some early pressure from the hosts, it waswishaw who took the lead after 16 minutes.

KB Grant came out on top when Lanark goalkeeper Gareth Hallford came out to challenge for the ball and slotted into the empty net.

However, the lead lasted less than 15 minutes whenwishaw‘keeper Brown brought down Lanark’s Lewis Hill in the box.

United captain Cammy Lawson made no mistake from the spot to put the cup tie firmly in the balance.

In the second half, wishaw had a chance to take the lead but Martin’s effort brought a superb save from the Lanark goalkeeper.

And another penalty from Lanark’s Lawson put pay to dreams of another Wishaw cup run.

Wishaw have the chance for more cup glory this weekend when they take on Rutherglen Glencairn in the Ardagh Groupwest of Scotland Cup first round.

Kick-off is at 2pm at Beltane Park.
