Woman is remanded

- Mike Mcquaid

A woman is behind bars after an alleged high speed police chase Motherwell and Bellshill.

It’s claimed Deborah Cameron kept going after spinning across the road, mounting the pavement and crashing into a fence.

She’s said to have been driving on the wrong side of the road while under the influence, narrowly missing other cars.

Cameron, 36, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last Friday.

She was charged with driving dangerously on North Road and Crossgates, Bellshill, and Bellshill Road, Parkneuk Street, Logans Road and Ailsa Crescent, Motherwell, on November 8 and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

It’s also alleged she was disqualified from driving at the time, shouted abuse at the police, gave officers false details and failed to provide a urine specimen after being suspected of drink-driving.

Prosecutors allege Cameron drove off at speed in North Road after speaking to the police and didn’t have lights on even though it was dark.

While police were in pursuit, her vehicle is said to have spun out of control on Bellshill Road, veering across the carriageway, mounting the pavement and crashing into a fence.

Then, it’s alleged, she continued at excessive speed, turning into Logans Road and into the path of oncoming vehicles. The charge states collisions were only nar rowly avoided.

Defence agent Rowan Myles said Cameron denied all the charges. Trial was set for next month and she was remanded in custody.

Sheriff Vincent Smith also granted a Crown bid to have the car allegedly driven by Cameron seized.
