We have plenty to offer

-

Wishaw Juniors manager Kieran Mcguinness is confident his team can still jump up the table despite losing out on their first league trip to Ardrossan.

The visitors took the game to the high-flying Ayrshire side, but found themselves three down in the first half hour.

Despite getting back into the match with two excellent strikes, wishaw couldn’t keep their fightback up, going on to lose 4-2.

Kieran was more than happy with how his players performed and is sure they will pick up points if they maintain the same level going forward.

He said:“it’s a funny game football. We started really well and our players up front we causing them a lot of bother.

“Suddenly they’ve taken the lead with a pass to a boy who was a clear two or three yards offside.

“We were all totally aghast that it wasn’t chalked off.

“They then got their second from a penalty for a handball.

“They scored again on the half hour mark and I was turning around to our boys saying‘how the hell are we three down here?’”

Wishaw staged a comeback when Aaron Neil slammed a free-kick in from 30 yards that clipped the bar on its way in.

Mark Canning then fired in a second from the edge of the box.

Despite looking the more likely to score next, Ardrossan sealed the win when they notched their fourth just one minute into the second half.

While disappointed they couldn’t find an equaliser, Kieran is still refusing to hit the panic button withwishaw third bottom but still with games in hand on the teams directly above them.

He said:“we were on top and nearly equalised just before half time.

“I said at the break that concentration was massive, so it was really disappointing to concede from a long ball just one minute after the restart. That gave us a mountain to climb.

“Ardrossan are one of the favourites to go up though and we ran them closer than the scoreline suggests.

“We’re not too concerned with the league position at the moment but we recognise we do need to get points on the board.

“It’s only a matter of time until they come though if we play like that.”

Wishaw travel to Bellshill on Saturday and Kieran is hoping to have a few of his injured players back, with Scott Crone (ankle), Glen Eadie (hamstring), Brian Jack (toe) and Jordan Brown (shoulder) all struggling to make the trip.
