Two in-a-row for under-13s
It was all smiles forwishawwycombe Wanderers Girls under-13s after they were crowned league champions for the second year in a row.
The side finished on equal points with Milton, from Bannockburn, and had to face them in a tense play-off for the league title.
Milton were the only team to have beaten the club during the season, and went two up early in the game.
Wishaw roared back into the match though and went in at half-time with a commanding 4-2 lead.
Milton came out in the second half with all guns blazing, but some top-quality defending and great goalkeeping saw Wishaw weather the storm.
Wishaw worked hard and took control of the game, and were rewarded with another goal midway through the second half to win emphatically 5-2.
Delighted head coach Davie Gray said:“it was a great performance from our team to top off what has been another magnificent season. I’d like to say a huge thanks to all our coaches for their hard work throughout the year, and to the parents for their assistance over the season too.
“Every girl in our squad had her part to play and each girl has shown what can be achieved when hard work, togetherness and determination come into play.
“Go thewishy!” said: “Due to the serious injury news regarding Nicky, it is the intention of all at Shotts to help him and his family in some way to alleviate the financial burden the family now has to endure. With him being self-employed, the serious injury he sustained has put him under an extra strain.”
