Time to do it for Carson

-

It might not have been the way goalkeeper Mark Gillespie would have wanted to earn his break in the Motherwell side.

But withtrevor Carson ruled out indefinitely to receive treatment for a Deepveinthrombosis, his backup proved he is ready to show‘well are still in safe hands.

Stephen Robinson snapped up Gillespie because he expected Carson to get a big move elsewhere in the summer – just six months afterwell rejected a January bid from Celtic for him.

So when nothing transpired that left Gillespie waiting in the wings for a chance at Fir Park.

Having started with a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Aberdeen, the delighted keeper said:“first of all my first thought is fortrevor and his family.

“News like that was difficult for everyone at the club to take but hopefully he makes a quick recovery.

“It was difficult to get in under those circumstances but obviously football has to go on. “We got the win for him so I’m pleased.” Gillespie made a number of good saves throughout the win over Aberdeen.

And he hopes the three points can be a catalyst as the Steelmen head into the festive period.

He added:“we’ve got to go forward from here. It’s been a difficult few weeks for the club but the lads reacted today.

“We’ve got to go again against Livingston.we’ve got to back it up again.”
