Tour de force as track team enter Holyrood

-

The team behind the Wishawhill Wood pump track were honoured at a reception in the Scottish Parliament.

The group had been invited to the Holyrood reception organised by Shotts MSP Alex Neill to showcase projects chosen by the Central Scotland Green Network Trust who helped build the track which is transforming the lives of kids living in Wishawhill and Craigneuk.

Dan Scott and Fred Crowson from Socialtrack who are the coaches were accompanied by two of the stars Jayme Leigh Halford, who attends Berryhill Primary, and Logan Kirk from Clyde Valley High.

The foursome set up a very motivating display with one of their impressive bikes at the event.

Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson MSP also attended to support the successful group from her constituency.

Craigneuk councillor Agnes Magowan said: “I was proud to be there to support this very worthwhile endeavour which supports North Lanarkshire’s Health, Wellbeing and Obesity Agenda and is greatly widening the horizons and possibilities for the young people involved.

“Well done Dan and Fred for your excellent management and coaching skills.

“The young people have all the respect in the world for you both.”

This project was chosen because young people in the area were at the heart of the project and are actively using the track.

It brought together a diverse range of community groups and public sector organisations working in partnership. The Central Scotland Green Network Trust supported the project with resources and expertise.

Councillor Magowan added: “The bike track has changed Craigneuk by removing an area of derelict land; building partnerships between local people and local organisations and supporting important local initiatives such as Club 365. It is also helping reduce fire and police call outs for this area and encourage community led regeneration.”
