Sunart support staff have night to remember for hospice
A big- hearted team of care workers are celebrating the huge success of a charity event in Netherton.
The home support staff at Sunart Street Sheltered Housing in Wishaw had intended on staging a small fundraiser to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice.
However, when workers and residents started collecting for a raffle, their charity plans snowballed.
Maggie Hendry, one of the Sunart Street support workers, said: “We started collecting the odd item and then the whole thing just escalated.
“We received lots of donations and the support from local businesses and the community was unbelievable. It got to the point where we realised we’d have to find premises to hold a charity night.”
The chosen venue was The Cherry Tree pub in Netherton, and Maggie’s fellow support workers jumped into action to organise an entertaining night. They included Charlie Stewart, Kimberley Moore, Ann Mooney, Liz Smith and Meg Stewart.
More than 100 people enjoyed the fundraiser in the pub, which included songs from Elvis impersonator David Dickie, an appearance and private readings from psychic medium Clara Mcfarlane, and Kevin Russell as DJ for the night. A total of £2520 was raised and a cheque was presented to the hospice.
The care home team thanked the following business and individuals for raffle donations and support : Chapman’s Butchers, Scania Bellshill, Barking Boutique dog groomers, Steven Llewelyn of North Lanarkshire Council, Imperial Bar and Imperial Meats, C & C MOT Centre, Rosebank Garden Centre, The Caddyshack, Bodyworks Beauty Den, Tesco, The Cherry Tree pub, and council officer Ruth Chalmers.
