Church The morning worship service, Discovery club and creche is at 12.30pm on Sunday, December 16. That was exactly what was on the menu: a fabulous collection of splendid winter scenes from Yosemite and other national parks of America, as well as a host of beautiful winter photographs of birds and mammals from ravens to mountain lions and grizzly bears. Alan gave an excellent presentation, frequently prompted and corrected by Julie, not only describing the many stunning photographs they had both taken. They also later offered much needed advice to any photographers wishing to visit these parts, with advice not only on photographic techniques but also on how to prepare properly to cope with temperatures as cold as -20°C, while travelling and photographing scenes or wildlife. This Friday’s meeting will be the GDPU image league between Carluke and Motherwell and the judge will be Fiona Brims. As always, this meeting will begin at 7.30pm on Friday in St Andrews Church hall in Mount Stewart Street and visitors and guests are always most welcome. The Sunday school party children will be at the church for 11.55am. A Christingle service with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides will be in the church at 6.30pm. All welcome. Speak to the minister if you know of anyone requiring a pastoral visit. Charity shop at Manse Road, Newmains will be closed from this Thursday, December 13. The group are currently looking for new premises in the village. Food Bank thanks everyone for their continued support and is open in the village on Wednesdays at 1pm. To make up Christmas hampers the food bank would be grateful for donations of any of the following items: shortbread, mince pies, Christmas cake, Christmas puddings, selection packs, chocolate, and Christmas logs. The group would also like to say a big thank you to everyone for all their generosity and support throughout the year. Festive services Special services will take place in Coltness Memorial church next week starting with Newmains primary’s church service on Tuesday, December 18 at 10am. This will be followed on Wednesday, December 19 with Morningside primary’s service at 10am in the same venue.
