Tears for young dad as family left stunned

- LYNN LOVE

The devastated family of a young Wishaw dad are mourning the sudden death of their ‘big, happy lad’.

David Kidd died last Saturday evening after being rushed to University Hospital, Wishaw.

The 22-year-old had been suffering with severe headaches, vomiting, blurred vision and confusion on and off since November.

David’s uncle, John Robertson, said the family are living a nightmare.

He added: “It’s tragic how quickly a young life can be taken.

“David’s life support was taken away and our hearts are broken. We are numb and totally in shock at what’s happened.”

David is survived by dad Tam, his mum Mary, his gran Mary, his partner of five years Stacey and his 22-monthold son Darren.

John added: “David won’t now see his baby boy, his best buddy Darren, grow into his own. He won’t see him begin nursery, school or do what he wishes to do.

“David won’t be alongside his beloved girlfriend Stacey to help raise Darren.

“They won’t grow old together as planned.

“They were a young family destined for great things.

“In my opinion they were a perfect match and now the world is crumbling at our feet. It’s horrific.”

Prior to his shock death, the former Coltness High pupil had visited his GP several times with headache complaints. He was told he was suffering from migraines and poor vision.

In the days leading up to his death, David visited the GP out of hours service in Hamilton and the A&E department at the Wishaw hospital last Wednesday and Thursday where he was allegedly told he was suffering with a sinus infection.

After being sent home from hospital, David went for a sleep and woke up feeling disorientated and still suffering with severe headaches. An ambulance was called and he was rushed to hospital.

After numerous tests, David was placed in an induced coma and transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

John added: “The family arrived at the hospital and were told that David’s condition was irreversible and that he would probably not recover as there was no response from the tests that had been carried out.

“David was no longer taking breaths for himself and was being fully supported to keep him alive.

“The doctors said they had to do further tests to be 100 per cent certain, but basically they said that they didn’t think there was any sign of life in David’s body. “It was such a shock to everyone.” David passed away two days later surrounded by his family.

John added: “David was a big, happy lad who was always smiling and having good friendly banter with his friends and family.

“He was always willing to help anyone without a moan. It was never too much for the big guy.”

Mechanic David was the sole breadwinner for his young family and had just recently started his working life.

John knew paying for his funeral would be a struggle and decided to set up a Just Giving page to help ease the stress for his immediate family.

In less than two days he has raised almost £ 1600 thanks to generous donations.
