Wishaw lad Billy Davie followed the example of many others when his path from school led straight to King’s Sweets.

His first job out ofwishaw High was working as a van boy for the famous company.

And he quickly discovered just how well-known King’s were as his deliveries took him the length and breadth of the country.

Billy said:“like many others inwishaw I went straight into a job at King’s from school.

“I absolutely loved it.we were doing deliveries all over Scotland, all the way up the mainland to Inverness and Fortwilliam to the west coast islands like Arran, Mull and the Uists.

“It was stunning scenery and it made me realise just how popular King’s were.

“We spread the name of King’s andwishaw, across the country and people just loved the sweets.”

Billy spent around 12 years at the company, moving onto pastures new shortly before it closed.

But he has such fond memories of the time that he insists he would go back to those days in a heartbeat.

“Everyone worked really well together, in the warehouse and in the office. There was a great team spirit.

“There was maybe 60 employees at its peak, so it was very important to the town with so many different jobs; engineers, g wrapping pp g staff, drivers, vers, sweetmakers.
