Calderhead High School’s parent council will have their next meeting on Thursday, March 7, at 6pm. If you are a parent or guardian of a pupil, you can come along and observe one of their meetings. The parent council also have a Twitter account “@ Calderheadpc” and the minutes of meetings can be found on the school’s website. GALA DAY

The scout hall at 100 Benhar Road, Shotts, is available for any organisations in the community to use, and requests to do so should be made to Mrs Mary Lees (group scout leader) on 01501 821658. CHURCH
EU Congregational Church will be open for prayer and reflection on Wednesays from 11am, with a short service held from 11.30am until 12 noon. There will be soup, tea and a chat available for all in the church hall from noon until 1pm. The Sunday morning service is at 11.30am, and singing group meets on Tuesdays at 7pm. SALVATION ARMY CORPS
Tonight’s Youth Connection group will meet from 6pm to 8pm. The toddlers’ group gathers on Thursday mornings at 9.30am, and prayer meetings are held that evening at 7pm. Friday Club takes place at 5.45pm and is followed by the JAM Club at 6.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am. On Tuesdays, the friendship club meets from 1pm to 3pm. Lodge St John 471 will have its next regular meeting on Friday, February 22, at 7pm in the Orange hall. The business of the evening will be the installation ceremony which was transferred from December. Members and visitors are asked to note the earlier start time of this meeting. COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Shotts community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the community centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings. Shotts slimming group has classes every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm in Epic Studios, Shottskirk Road (above Ladbrokes at Dykehead Cross). For more information about the classes, contact Jacqueline on 07492065611, where everyone will be made most welcome. ARTSKOOL
Is an exciting project for children and adults alike. It offers art classes for all ages. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for eight to 11-year-olds, while on Tuesdays from 10.30am until 12 noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds taking place from 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there is a class for ages 12 and upwards. Additional classes can also be scheduled based on demand. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 10am to 3pm, the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am until 4pm. Results of the club’s recent annual general meeting saw Jim Roy elected as president, but at present the vice-president and match secretary posts have yet to filled. Entertainment begins at club on Saturday with bingo and dancing to Satisfaction, with Johnnie Weir the following week on February 23. Upcoming acts to look out for include Tracey Brown on March 2, Billy’s One Man Band on March 9, Stevie Watters on April 6, Jackie Clark on April 20, Peter West of May 4, Gee Jay Wilson on June 1, and Lee Scott on June 8. The club will host a charity indoor bowls competition on Sunday, February 17 for the Heart Foundation, to which all will be made most welcome; see J Roy for details of this event. Competition forms for the green’s opening at 2pm on April 13, are now available to pick up from the clubhouse. The ladies opening will take place at 2pm on April 17. CALDERHEAD ERSKINE CHURCH
The kirk session has now appointed Rev Iain Murdoch as locum minister for Shotts Calderhead Erskine Parish church of Scotland. William Colquhoun Memorial LOL152 would like members to note that the time of the bus for the annual orange ball on Saturday, February 16 has now changed. It will leave Shotts Orange hall at 4.45pm and not 5.10pm as previously stated. Members can be picked up from Allanton Church and Newmains, en route to Pather, to take part in the annual celebrations.
