MOTHERWELL AND WISHAW

DALZIEL ST ANDREW’S PARISH CHURCH

Rob Jones will again lead worship at the church on Sunday with assistance for the deaf provided by Helen (BSL signer) and Linda (electronic note taker). Tea and coffee will continue to be available after the morning services throughout the summer months.

Anyone who cannot manage along to the building can join in via the live streaming of the service on the church website, www.dalzielstandrews.org.uk. Recordings are also available after the service on Youtube with a dedicated stream, either live or recorded, available for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Although the Sunday school and Fusion groups have now finished for the summer months, a summer Sunday school will be open each Sunday for fun, games, snacks. All children welcome. The theme will be based on animals named in the Bible with a different story told each week. A creche will also operate at the church every week.

This year’s annual summer holiday club will run from Monday, July 29 until Friday, August 2, starting from 11am to 2pm each day. It is aimed at primary aged children and will be open to all. Registration forms will be available at the church. A mid-day meal will be included each day with no charge made for attendance.

Although the prayer group is also having a summer break, there remains the opportunity for people to provide prayer requests. Forms are available at the church and all requests will be dealt with in confidence. A request box can also be found on the home page of the church’s website. ROTARY CLUB

Last Thursday was the hand over dinner at the Rotary club of Motherwell and Wishaw, where outgoing president Andrew Steven handed over the presidential chain of office to the new president Andrew Murray. The evening started with Irish bingo and the last person standing was Sandy Murray who won a nice bottle of brandy. The musical entertainment was provided by young musicians, Rebecca Steven and Struan Young, who are both currently studying BED (Hons) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Margaret Mair presented a Young Achiever Award to Liam Hastie, a pupil at Coltness High School. Liam is a member of the local Rivals Gym in Wishaw. Scott Allan of Rivals Gym stated that Liam joined his gym at the age of five in 2008 and has over the years represented his country in the sport of kick boxing and won many titles, including two gold medals at the world championships in Tuscany in 2013. In 2018, he was awarded his black belt first dan and is now an instructor at Rivals, where he instructs and encourages the junior members.

Two rotarians were Paul Harris recipients, namely, Hughes Lumsden and Ian St John who received their Paul Harris Sapphires in recognition of their 50 years service to the Rotary. Hughes and Margaret Mair received honorary membership of the Motherwell and Wishaw Rotary Club for their continued service to the rotary. Honorary membership diplomas and pin badges were handed over to past honorary members Dorothy Allan, Bob Craig and Peter Cleland. Before his concluding remarks, the newly installed president, Andrew Murray, presented senior vice president Katrina Gibbons and junior vice president with their respective chains of office. Katrina gave the vote of thanks.
