Although the prayer group will not be meeting during the summer months, prayer requests will remain to be welcome.

Cards are available at the church doors and these can be uplifted at any time. There is also an option of completing an online prayer request form, via their website, www.dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk.

This Sunday, July 14, Rob Jones will again lead the worship with assistance for the deaf and hard of hearing provided by Helen (BSL signer) and Linda (electronic note taker).

The service is also available to view live on the church’s website and for catch-up later on Youtube.

A dedicated streaming service to assist the deaf is also available, both live and recorded.

This year’s summer Sunday school is open each week at the church with lots of fun and games and snacks, including a Bible story based around the subject of animals.

All children will be made most welcome. A creche is also open each week during the Sunday worship service.

The annual summer holiday club will begin on Monday, July 29, until Friday, August 2.

It will run each day from 11am until 2pm. The theme of the club this year will be Team Builders. It includes the provision of a meal and no charge will be made for attendance.

This event is open to all primary aged children with be lots of fun and activities on offer. Registrati­on forms are now available to pick up from the church. HOULDSWORT­H BOWLING CLUB

The function room will be closed on Saturdays, July 13, and 20 but the lounge will be open as normal.

The charity day on Saturday, July 20 will be supporting a cystic fibrosis charity.

There will be dancing to Stewart Stevens plus bingo and treasure chest on Saturday, July 27. ROTARY CLUB

Thursday saw the start of the Rotary Club’s summer session when club members select a topic to speak on.

Tom Agnew started the ball rolling on July 4 to mark this year’s American Independen­ce Day.

His talk was focused on the 10 things people did not know about this momentous day.

Tom listed them as follows, giving a brief summary of each:

1. The Declaratio­n of Independen­ce was not signed on July 4 (or in July at all;

2. The first celebratio­ns were not much different from today’s;

3. Eating salmon on July 4 is a tradition in New England;

4. Massachuse­tts was the first state to recognise the holiday;

5. The oldest annual Fourth of July celebratio­n is held in Bristol, Rhode Island;

6. The shortest Fourth of July parade is in Aptos, California;

7. There are around 15,000 Independen­ce Day fireworks celebratio­ns held every year;

8. American eat an obscene amount of hot dogs; 9. And spend billions of dollars on food; 10. Three former presidents have died, and one was born on the Fourth of July.

The winner of the weekly bonus ball was John Mcdonald.

On June 28 an honorary membership of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was awarded to the Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh, Andrey A. Pritsepov, in the presence of 12 members of the club.

Outgoing president Andrew Steven stressed in his speech the contributi­on of the Consul General to strengthen­ing friendship and cooperatio­n between the people of Russia and Scotland. RAMBLING CLUB

The Holey Soles rambling club’s next walk will be on July 28 from Gullane to North Berwick.

The half hour Wednesday service is at noon. Morning worship this Sunday is a shared services with Wishaw Old Parish Church, starting at 11am in Wishaw Old Church and will be conducted by Rev Keith Ross.

Holiday club leaders are asked to meet at 10am on Wednesday, July 17, for a craft demonstrat­ion.

This year’s Professor Potty’s Travellers’ Tales summer holiday club will begin on July 29 until August 2 at South Wishaw Church.

It will run each day from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Children in primary one up to and including primary seven are eligible to attend, at no cost. WISHAW UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

Joint services with Cambusneth­an North Church will take place throughout the summer on Sundays, July 14 and 21, in Cambusneth­an North Church, and on July 28, August 4 and 11, in Cambusneth­an Old and Morningsid­e Church.

All of the above services will start at the earlier time of 10.30am.

All church organisati­ons have now finished for the summer months and will resume in the autumn.

GALA DAY

The committee are seeking more members to join them along with their regular helpers to prepare for next year’s gala day event in the village.

Their next annual general meeting will be held in early August, to which all are welcome to attend. CLASSES

A computer basics course will give technophob­es an introducti­on into using a computer with an SQA qualificat­ion available at the end.

It runs from 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday at the NCT Centre.

The centre also hosts a digital inclusion class on Monday from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The course will provide informatio­n about tablets, computers, ipads, Skype, email, using a Kindle, and smart phones.

A family history group will also run at the Newmains computer suite, situated to the left of Newmains Primary School.

It takes place every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The lunch club serves lunches each Monday, from noon until 2pm. Two courses are provided for £4, comprising of main course with tea/coffee or juice followed by dessert.

A takeaway service is also available if it is required.

Come along, enjoy a nice meal, in convivial company, where all will be made welcome. LINE DANCING GROUP

Line dancing classes take place in the hall of Overtown Church on Wednesday’s.

Beginners’ and refreshers’ class begins at 12.30pm, followed by the main class from 1.15pm until 2.45pm.

All ages and abilities will be made most welcome. SUMMER SCHOOL

This year’s summer club, Seaside Rocks, will run during the summer holidays, starting on Tuesday, July 30, until Friday, August 2.

It will run each day in the halls of Overtown Church between 10am and noon.

The club will be a chance for kids to come along and participat­e in games, crafts, group work and fun, based on some of the most well known Bible stories, all with a seaside twist.

On the Friday evening at 6pm, a barbecue is being planned for the children and their families, as well as a service in the church on the Sunday morning at 11am.

The holiday club is open to any children who will be due to start primary one after the summer holidays, up to and including those in primary seven before the summer holidays.
