DALZIEL ST ANDREW’S PARISH CHURCH

It will soon be time for this year’s Teambuilde­rs summer holiday club with the fun due to begin on July 29 and run until August 2, at Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church.

The club will run each day between 11am and 2pm with lunch provided for all those youngsters taking part.

It will be open to all primary school aged children, at no cost for attendance, and registrati­on is now open via the church’s website, www.dalzielsta­ndrews. org.uk.

Sunday worship this week will be lead by Rob Jones, who will continue his well received series of talks on the Book of Genesis. Services for those who are deaf or hard of hearing will be provided this week by Helen (BSL signer) and Linda (electronic note taker). All are most welcome to come along.

Anyone unable to attend can join in via a live stream which is available on the home page of the church’s website, or for catch up later on You Tube. A dedicated streaming service for the deaf will also be available on the website.

Organisers were delighted to see as many children at the start of this year’s summer Sunday school. Youngsters can join in the fun and games on Sunday mornings at 11am and hear a Bible story on the topic of animals. All are welcome to come along.

Counsellin­g is a service offered by the church to allow individual­s and couples to speak in confidence with a qualified and experience­d counsellor. Further informatio­n on this service is available on the church website or by contacting Eric at 0750739450­1 or by emailing eric@ dlsa.org.uk.

The next messy church event will be held on Sunday, August 11. This will follow the all ages service which will be conducted at 11am.

All sections of the Sunday school and Fusion groups will resume the following week on August 18.

The messy church will start at the usual time of 3.30pm along the theme of Bible gardens.

It is aimed at young families who will be made most welcome. There will be fun and games and activities on offer, concluding with a barbecue at 5pm in the church grounds.

Senior vice president Katrina Gibbons was the speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the Rotary club of Motherwell and a Wishaw. Katrina said she had been looking for a craft club to join and that she had gone along to Craigneuk Lifelong Learning Associatio­n (CLLA) to see what they had on offer. There were no courses available but Katrina was asked to set one up and that started her involvemen­t with CLLA. The Associatio­n started in 1993 and Katrina said that you could enrol for any class once you became a member which cost £5 per year. A range of courses are provided at the centre. These include IT and employabil­ity courses; baby massage; healthy cookery courses; speakeasy; tai chi; self defence; DIY for women; first aid and paediatric first aid; mental health first aid; digital photograph­y for beginners and experience­d photograph­ers; genealogy; parents’ and toddlers’ group and Book Bug sessions. Katrina encouraged her fellow rotarians to come along to the centre and see for themselves what it has to offer. President Andrew Murray thanked her for her informativ­e talk. HOULDSWORT­H BOWLING CLUB

The function room will be closed this Saturday, July 20 but the lounge will be open as normal.

The charity day taking place in the club on Saturday,will be supporting a cystic fibrosis charity.

There will be dancing to Stewart Stevens plus bingo and treasure chest the following week on July 27. RAMBLING CLUB

The Holey Soles rambling club’s next walk will be on July 28 from Gullane to North Berwick.

The half hour Wednesday service is at noon and will include communion.

Morning worship this Sunday is a shared services with Wishaw Old Parish Church, starting at 11am and will be conducted by Rev Keith Ross.

Today’s holiday club leaders meeting is at 10am and will be a craft demonstrat­ion.

This year’s Professor Potty’s Travellers’ Tales summer holiday club will begin on July 29 until August 2 at South Wishaw Church.

It will run each day from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Children in primary one up to and including primary seven are eligible to attend, admission is free. WISHAW UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

Joint services with Cambusneth­an North Church will take place throughout the summer as follows: on Sunday, July 21, in Cambusneth­an North Church, and on Sundays, July 28, August 4 and 11, in Cambusneth­an Old and Morningsid­e Church.

All of the above services will start at the earlier time of 10.30am.

All church organisati­ons have now finished for the summer months and will resume in the autumn.

Entertainm­ent this week sees social dancing in the concert hall plus cash bingo on Thursday.

A cabaret and dancing to Gee Jay Wilson plus bingo on Friday; cabaret and dancing in the concert hall to Alana Johnston and Andy Duncan plus bingo on Saturday. Snowball of £150 and treasure chest. Dancing to Donnie Findlay plus bingo on Monday and Slimming World class at 7.30pm on Tuesdays.

The card making group on Wednesdays will run over the summer at a changed time of 9.30-11.30am at the Greenfield Drive centre.

All other groups have now finished for the summer and will resume in August.

Tots of Fun will be running messy play sessions in July, from 9.30-10.45am, and the last session will take place on July 30.

It costs £ 2 per toddler, and there will also be other activities on offer for children between the P1-P4 age group, at a cost of £1.

The Club 365 programme will continue over the summer holidays for children between the ages of P1- P7 who are entitled to free school meals.

It will run daily between 11.30am and 1.30pm; all youngsters are welcome and parents will be able to sign up their children on the day at the centre.

This year’s theme is World Explorers. However, this will change to a space themed week from the week beginning July 15, to which all kids are welcome to come along and join in.

GALA DAY

The committee are seeking new members to join them along with their regular helpers to prepare for next year’s gala day event in the village.

Their next annual general meeting will be held in early August, to which all are welcome to attend. CLASSES

A computer basics course will give technophob­es an introducti­on into using a computer with an SQA qualificat­ion available at the end.

It runs from 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday at the NCT Centre.

The centre also hosts a digital inclusion class on Monday from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The course will provide informatio­n about tablets, computers, ipads, Skype, email, using a Kindle, and smart phones.

A family history group will also run at the Newmains computer suite, situated to the left of Newmains primary school.

It takes place every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

A computer basics course is also available in Newmains IT suite on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm. STRUTHERS CHURCH

Bonkle church are looking for donations of old inkjet cartridges or mobile phones in aid of the Breast Cancer Awareness charity. Anyone with any used cartridges or old mobile phones, which they wish to recycle, is asked to put the items in a bag and leave them in the vestibule at the church or speak to Gladys for more informatio­n.

OVERTOWN

CHURCH

The morning service in Overtown Parish Church this Sunday is at 11am, with a creche for younger children. All visitors to the church are welcome. LUNCH CLUB

The lunch club serves lunches each Monday, from noon until 2pm. Two courses are provided for £4, comprising of main course with tea/coffee or juice followed by dessert.

A takeaway service is also available if it is required.

Come along, enjoy a nice meal, in convivial company, where all will be made welcome. LINE DANCING GROUP

Line dancing classes take place in the hall of Overtown church on Wednesdays.

Beginners’ and refreshers’ class begins at 12.30pm, followed by the main class from 1.15pm until 2.45pm.

All ages and abilities will be made most welcome. SUMMER SCHOOL

This year’s summer club, Seaside Rocks, will run during the summer holidays, starting on Tuesday, July 30, until Friday, August 2.

It will run each day in the halls of Overtown church between 10am and noon.

The club will be a chance for kids to participat­e in games, crafts, group work and fun, based on some of well known Bible stories, all with a seaside twist.

On the Friday evening at 6pm, there will be a barbecue for the children and their families, as well as a service in the church on the Sunday morning at 11am.

The holiday club is open to all primary aged children.
