Health and wellbeing is priority at launch

- ROSS THOMSON

The first of a series of new health and wellbeing events in Shotts has been declared a success.

Spring Social Prescribing (Spring SP) hosted their first health and wellbeing day for 20 clients at the Station Hotel earlier this month.

The project, which is funded by the National Lottery, is just one of a number projects based at Getting Better Together (GBT) which offers services to local residents.

The event was organised by social prescribers, Catherine Carson and Becky Mitchell, and offered clients a morning of yoga, mindfulness and relaxation followed by lunch.

In the afternoon, head and hand massages, shellac nails and/or full make up was available.

Catherine said: “Everyone who attended seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day, it was a great first event and provided an opportunity for people to get to know one another.

“Becky and I would very much like to extend a huge thanks to the Station Hotel and their staff for hosting the event, it wouldn’t have been possible without their support. In addition, we want to thank Mary for instructing our yoga sessions, Kirsty, Zaria, Nicky and Fiona for providing beauty services.”

SPRING SP enables a GP or primary health care professional to refer patients (18 years plus) who suffer from a range of medical issues, to community support programmes and activities.

These can include social clubs, physical activities, arts and crafts, counselling, peer support groups, advice and guidance and volunteering groups.

The project will host an information event for anyone who wishes to find out more on August 29 in the Springhill Hall.

Catherine added: “We want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved, and welcome anyone interested to attend the information session at the end of August. The day will be more of a drop-in service and we will also be providing information on a number of initiatives that GBT are running.”

More information on the event is available by speaking to Catherine or Becky on 01501 825800.
