Vandals are caught red handed

- ROSS THOMSON

Vandals spray painting a popular Wishaw snack bar were caught in the act.

The yobs targeted Jac’s Kitchen on the outskirts of Gowkthrapple in the late night incident last Tuesday.

However, the gang were stopped in their tracks by a passer-by and sped off in a silver Toyota.

Joshua Denny caught the vandals in the act and has since passed on the registration number to the police.

He said: “I was finishing my work and driving past when I saw a few people there. I went to see what was going on and then I saw the graffiti.

“There were four of them there but I asked them what they were doing and if they had been doing the spray painting.

“A girl in the passenger seat said it was them and after they quickly sped away.

“Luckily I managed to get the registration plate of the car.”

Jac’s owner Johnny Borthwick was getting ready to fly home from his holiday M . in Spain when he heard the news.

And he is thankful that Joshua, his daughter Emma’s boyfriend, was driving past and spotted the vandals when he did.

Johnny said: “The police have got all of the information so we have to take it from there.

“We have been vandalised before but it’s certainly not a regular occurrence.

“There is a CCTV camera across the road so I would hope that they are able to get who did it.

“They have spray painted the back and have been moving around the front when they were stopped.

“It’s quite a distinctive tag so I don’t know if people have seen it before. The damage is minimal but it’s more of an inconvenience.”

Police confirmed to the Wishaw Press that the car’s registration and insurance details had been checked out and enquiries were ongoing,

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
