Bedroom and hall ripped up due to leak

- ROSS THOMSON

A string of cock-ups within his council property has left one man frustrated.

Tony Smith has been having problems with his home in Ravenscraig for the past three years.

However, problems came to a head last week when a leak in his bathroom forced carpets in his hall and daughter’s bedroom to be ripped up.

Frustrated Tony said: “We’ve had problems before but everything had settled done for about 18 months. Then last week my wife had noticed some water marks in the kitchen.

“I was going upstairs for a shower so I checked it out and there was a puddle on the bathroom floor.

“We’ve had leaks in the bathroom and this time it meant we had to take up the carpet in the hall and in my daughter’s bedroom. It was soaked.

“We’ve had the council inspector out but this keeps happening and it has to be sorted once and for all.”

Tony, who shares his home with wife Megan and two-year-old daughter, Miah, has been living in the property in Lindsay Drive since 2011. However, problems with his kitchen and bathroom have persisted since 2016 and has already resulted in a new kitchen ceiling due to leakage.

Tony, who survived a Sepsis scare two years ago, added: “We had damp marks in the ceiling back in 2016 and when we first reported it the council sent an electrician out!

“Eventually the ceiling was patched up with filler but we still had problems about a year later.

“In the end they found it was a leakage at the side of our shower which was only discovered when the council was putting in a new bathroom.

“We had the ceiling completely redone and new sheets of Gyprock put in which meant we could get our kitchen decorated.

“My wife suffers from Vasculitis, which is inflammation of the blood vessels so she doesn’t keep well and I’m just getting back on my feet after having Sepsis.

“We are both on the mend and I can do bits and bobs in the house but we just want this sorted.

Raymond Boyd, the council’s project delivery manager, confirmed Tony contacted the local authority, outwith working hours on July 27.

He added: “The call was responded to immediately and a plumber was sent out to investigate the source of the leak. It was discovered that a wash hand basin was choked and a leak was also found at the bath grating.

“Both issues were resolved during this visit.

“Arrangements have been made with the tenant to complete remedial works, which includes the redecoration of the kitchen ceiling.

“We will also arrange a post inspection of the completed works to ensure all is in order.”
