Margaret’s got beer ideas

-

An entrepreneur has teamed up with a beer company to produce a special edition of her high-energy snack.

We revealed earlier this month that Margaret Webster from Newmains had won a Natwest Bank crowdfunding competition and was looking for financial backers for her business start-up.

The 50-year-old is producing biltong, a dried cured beef snack primarily aimed at athletes and keep-fit enthusiasts.

She is also keen to illustrate that it’s not only fitness fanatics who will enjoy her food product and has got together with Glasgow brewer WEST Beer to produce a GPA (German Pale Ale)-infused snack.

Margaret said:“we have made a special GPA WEST Beer-infused biltong to show how well it pairs with beer.”

There will be a“meat and Greet”event at the German-style brewpub tomorrow and the mum-of-one will be there to answer questions on the Hungten Biltong products.

“It’s primarily to promote the brand and get the much-needed support to get the product successfully launched,”margaret added.

“I’ll also be bringing along our Original Style Biltong and Chilli Bites.”

WEST Beer pub and brewery is situated adjacent to Glasgow Green in thetempleton Building.

It is the first brewery in the UK to produce all of its beers in accordance with the German purity law.

Margaret discovered biltong while living in South Africa and says it is“a bit like beef jerky”.

The business idea proved a winner in the Natwest Back Her Business Crowdfunder competition.

The bank has pledged half of her intended target, if she can raise an initial £2,000 from 10 separate backers.

If she can then raise a further £2,000, the bank will give her £4,000 cash, but if not the pledge is retracted.
