Stewart admitted carrying out the assaults in Baird Terrace, Harthill, on April 5.

Pipe Major Ross Cowan, said:“we are all very proud to win this, the support the band has had from the people of North Lanarkshire has been his son into the house.

“On being told this, the accused became angry, began to shout and forced entry by kicking the front door until a glass panel fell out.

“He then reached through, unlocked the door and entered. Still shouting, he came into possession of a large metal pole and struck his dad several times on the body with it.”

Mr King said the woman tried to calm the situation by offering Stewart a cigarette.

That had no effect and he started hitting her with the pole. She went back to her bedroom, but Stewart followed her and punched her.

Eventually, the woman was able to call the police and, realising this, Stewart left the house.

She suffered a cut above her eye but refused to go to hospital.

Stewart was also accused of stealing items from the house and threatening to stab the couple and burn down their home.

It was also alleged he brandished scissors at the woman and threatened to cut her throat.

However, lawyer Luke O’curry persuaded the Crown to withdraw these charges.

Mr O’curry said his client had experienced domestic abuse as a child which put his own offending “in context”.

The solicitor added: “He needs reminding that intoxication and offending is a lifestyle that will lead nowhere but the revolving door of Polmont YOI and thereafter the adult prison environment.”
