Thanks to woman who saved my boy Mum’s search for Good Samaritan

- ROSS THOMSON

A Wishaw mum is trying to track down a woman who she believes saved her son as he was filmed being beaten by a gang of young thugs.

Lesley Staniard says her boy Jack was playing football with his friends at Wishaw Sports Centre when he was attacked by a gang of teenagers at around 7pm on Saturday, August 31.

She also said the alleged attack was filmed and then uploaded to social media.

According to Lesley, the film shows Jack suffering kicks to the head, ribs and legs.

His mum alleges he also suffered cigarette burns to his neck and clothes.

The alleged assault only ended when a woman got out of her black BMW and managed to get Jack out of harm’s way.

Lesley said: “If that woman hadn’t sounded her horn and stopped the car I dread to think what could have happened.

“There were about 30 or 40 people there — boys and girls.

“I was sent the videos and they are absolutely horrific.

“I’m not going to lie, when I saw them they just broke me.

“I have been struggling to sleep and have had nightmares thinking about it.

“I have had five or six names given to me which I have handed to the police.”

Jack was taken to hospital for treatment for a number of wounds including concussion, facial injuries, bruised ribs, burn marks and cuts to his leg.

He is now recovering at home, with Lesley hoping those who carried out the alleged assault are brought to task.

Her Facebook post which aims to track down the Good Samaritan has been shared more than 350 times but as yet no-one has been able to identify who the woman is.

“We have given names to the police and I have also contacted a number of parents whose children were involved,” said Lesley.

“My focus is now on trying to find the woman who saved my son.

“Jack’s a quiet boy and mentally he is coping relatively well with what happened.

“He’s been put through the most horrific experience and I can’t begin to imagine how he must be feeling right now.

“But I speak for all of us when I say thank you for the nice messages asking how he is, or how our family are coping.

“He was more upset as they burned his new Arsenal top which had Kieran Tierney’s name on the back of it.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland has confirmed that a 15-year-old boy had been arrested and charged with assault, and that another juvenile identified from the footage is yet to be traced.

Enquiries are also currently ongoing to trace others identified in the incident.
