A book sale will run today from 2pm to 4pm at Shotts Salvation Army Corps with tonight’s Youth Connection meeting at 6pm to 8pm. The mothers’ and toddlers’ group runs on Thursdays from 9.30am to 11.30am; prayer meetings take place that evening at 7pm, and the Jam Club meets on Fridays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am and the friendship club runs on Tuesday from 1pm till 3pm.

A Macmillan coffee morning will take place on Wednesday, September 26, from 10am to 11am.

Entertainm­ent for members and guests will be the Allanton Flute Band’s 50th anniversar­y parade and celebratio­n. The parade will assemble at Knollcroft Road, Shotts at 5pm and move off at 5.15pm to parade through the town and finish at the scial club to continue the celebratio­ns. BON ACCORD CLUB

Bingo is played on a Wednesday and Friday from 8pm and a Saturday from 10pm. The Christmas party night has now sold out.

At the Motherwell Campus, local Italian restaurant chaintony Macaroni served up hundreds of free pizzas using their distinctiv­e branded Fiat 500 cars.

Student president Calum Smith said: “Myself and the full Students’ Associatio­n team at New College Lanarkshir­e were delighted with this year’s Freshers events.

“I was at all three main campuses and couldn’t have asked for more from the students, staff and organisati­ons plus a guest vocalist performing in the club on September 29.

Entry costs £6; doors open from 2pm to 6pm.

A grand charity event in aid of Alzheimer Scotland Action on Dementia will be hosted on November 1. Top acts will include Jackie Clarke, Tony Andrews, Carol Paris, Liz Sloan, Gee Jay Wilson, Lynda Knight, Billy Meredith plus Close Up Magic with Stevo and Terry Mac. Raffle donations would be welcomed.

CAMERA CLUB

Carluke Camera Club held an informal evening when all members had been invited to bring a selection of digital images which they had captured during the summer season. Monday evening featured the second of the club’s classes for beginners, covering basic camera techniques. This week’s meeting will be addressed by well-known guest speaker Bill Higgins, whose subject will be “Wings and Things” on nature photograph­y, featuring a wide range of birds and animals.

This should be of interest to beginners and experts, alike, and the evening will also be the hand-in for the club’s print competitio­n. This will be judged on October 4 by Dougie Allan, a former photograph­er with the British Antarctic Survey, before transferri­ng to the BBC where he has contribute­d to many natural history television programmes.

The regular club meetings are held on Fridays at 7.30pm, in St Andrews church hall, on Mount Stewart Street, Carluke. GAME CHANGERS PROJECT

A new project project will start in the village on Thursday, September 26. Meetings will initially run on a monthly basis from 2pm to 4pm. These will take the form of an afternoon of board games, indoor bowling on occasion, and entertainm­ent with refreshmen­ts being served. It will be an opportunit­y for people to socialise with friends and get to know some new faces. All are welcome.
