Rock opera is heavenly

-

Shotts St Patrick’s Amateur Opera Group are preparing the Way of the Lord as they rehearse for this year’s show – the Rock opera Godspell.

The group always manage to bring different genres of musical offerings and the choice of Godspell is raising plenty of interest and excitement among their regular followers and more.

The musical composed by Stephen Schwartz is based on the Gospel according to St Matthew. The show first opened off-Broadway in 1971 and has grown in popularity in the intervening years

The show was re-scored and updated in 2011 and it is this version which will be presented by St Patrick’ Opera under director Judy Brown and musical director Fraser Wilson.

This modern and contemporary re-telling is a joyous celebration of music, mime, comedy and slapstick in a colourful stage setting, specially produced for St. Patrick’s Group for his show.

The show presents a series of parables which are interspersed with music set to lyrics from traditional hymns. Jesus Christ recruits a group of followers and teaches them various lessons through song and dance.

The production will be on stage at Howden Park Centre, Livingston from October 8 to October 12, starting at 7.30pm each evening.

Tickets cost £15 (concessions £12) for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday performances.

Tickets can be obtained by calling 01506 340700 or online at www.howdenparkcentre. co.uk/booking
