Tonight’s meeting of the sisterhood will welcome Rob Jones as their guest speaker. He will lead worship on Sunday morning at Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church. Assistance for the deaf this week is provided by Linda (electronic note taker) and Steven (BSL signer). Anyone who is unable to come to the church can join in the service via the “Watch Live” link on the church’s home page, www.dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk. A separate stream is also available to those who are deaf. All adult and youth organisati­ons are now underway and new members are always welcome. The men’s club will hold their first meeting of the session on Monday, October 7 at 7.30pm and carpet bowls will start that day at 2pm. The group also meet on Thursday afternoons at the same time. The weekly prayer group gathers in the prayer room each Wednesday at 1pm. The congregati­onal board and Kirk session next meet on October 10 at 6.45pm and 7.30pm respective­ly. The next community breakfast takes place on October 19, between 10am and 11.30am. Hot filled rolls with tea and coffee and a chat will be on offer. All welcome. The annual Christmas craft table top sale will be held on November 2, starting at 11am. Hot filled rolls and home baking will be available in the small hall of the church during the sale. There was a good number of entries in the first projected image competitio­n of the new season at Motherwell Photograph­ic Society held recently.

The competitio­n was judged by Fiona Brims, an accomplish­ed photograph­er from Grangemout­h, who explained that when assessing photograph­s she looked for impact, drama, a story, technical proficienc­y and something a bit different. She discussed each image, and gave positive assessment­s and constructi­ve suggestion­s, before marking them out of 20. The final resulted in two images, “On the way home” by Linda Greenhill and “Malta” by Carmen Lopez sharing third place. “Purple tulip” and “Bird’s-nest hair” both by Andrea Fraser in second equal, and the overall winning image was “On the head son” by Dominic Smith.

Lanarkshir­e Family History Society will hold a talk by Colonel David Cranstoun of Corehouse entitled “The Lockharts: Myths and Links”. It will include tales and facts, both serious and lightheart­ed, about his branch of the family.

The talk will begin at 7pm in the Glo Centre in Motherwell on October 10; a warm welcome is extended to all.

Scotland’s largest Local and Family History Show will be taking place this year on Saturday, October 5, in Motherwell Concert Hall.Organised by volunteers from Lanarkshir­e Family History Society, the show has become a regular event on the genealogy calendar, appealing to everyone with an interest in family history and local heritage. It will feature a range of speakers as well as exhibitors from throughout Scotland and beyond, and an “Ask the Experts” section. The Motherwell Ladies of Steel group meets on the third Wednesday of the month in the Daisy Park Community Centre, on Cassels Street, Motherwell from 7pm to 8.30pm. Entrance is £4. Wednesdays half-hour service resumes this week at noon. Sunday service is at 11am, while the Kingdom Kids club will meet in the church hall at that time. Saturday cafe resumes on Saturday, between 10am and 1pm with Team D on duty. The Guild and Fellowship groups will resume on Monday, October 7, both will begin at 7.30pm. Sharing Circle is on Thursday at 1.30pm. Youth clubs on Saturday at 7pm. Sunday Service at 11am includes Communion and will be conducted by Rev Alex Brown. Guild and Fellowship both resume on Monday at 7.30pm. Tickets for the Hallowe’en Play and Party on October 26 are now available. WISHAW UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

The service on Sunday is at 11.15am in Coltness Community Centre and will be conducted by Mrs Yvonne Hamilton. Everyone welcome. The Girls’ Brigade meets every Thursday at 6.30pm, and welcomes new members.

NETHERTON SENIOR CITIZENS’ GROUP

Are holding a bingo night on Thursday, in Netherton Community Centre. Admission for adults is £1 and kids for 50p; includes pie and peas served at the interval. Doors open 6.30pm, for eyes down at 7.30pm. ROTARY CLUB

It was the corporate quiz at last Thursday’s meeting of the rotary club of Motherwell and Wishaw. Past President John McDonald set the questions for the rounds consisting of general knowledge, Olympics and pictorial questions on chocolate bars, biscuits and well known places from a strange camera position. To everyone’s surprise the winning team was from the rotary club itself which consisted of James Gibbons, Paul Begley, Willie Talbot and Andrew Stephen. The Number Club winners were John McGeary, Ronnie Moore and John Chapman. The vote of thanks was given by Paul Begley.

The service on Sunday is at 11.30am in Cambusneth­an Old and Morningsid­e Church. It will be the annual dedication service of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Companies, to which friends and relatives are invited. The service will be led by Ian White who continues as locum minister. This week’s speaker will be a member of the Girls’ Brigade who will talk about the Queens Award; men’s club meets on Wednesdays at 7.15pm in the games room, and choir practise is on Thursdays at 7.30pm. The annual harvest thanksgivi­ng service will take place in the church on Sunday, October 13. CAMBUSNETH­AN CLUB

Entertainm­ent for members and guests begins with social dancing in the concert hall and cash bingo on Thursday; cabaret and dancing with Ricky Wilde plus bingo on Friday; cabaret and dancing in the concert hall with Liz Sloan and Dave Lewis plus bingo on Saturday. Snowball of £150 and treasure chest. Dancing with Johnny Weir and bingo is on Monday, and Slimming World class is at 7.30pm on Tuesdays.

The upcoming show of the month with Jubilee and Ricky Wilde will be hosted on October 11; tickets cost £5.

Activities at the centre on Greenfield Drive, Wishaw this week sees on Mondays: alternativ­e dance - noon to 1pm, girls’ group for P5-7 from 6-7pm and for S1s at 7.30-9pm.

Tuesdays: Tots of Fun parents’ and toddlers’ group 9.30-11.15am, walking group meets at the centre 10.30am to noon, community café - noon to 1pm, Zumba for five to 10 year-olds 3.304.30pm, and senior bingo 6-9pm.

Wednesdays: Flash Club (after school club) 3.15-5pm during term time.

All P1-5 children are welcome to join this club; snack bar serves healthy snacks.

Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or guardian.

Football for P1s and over at the Cambusneth­an pitches 6-8pm. Thursdays: lunch club noon to 1pm. Please inform the centre if you would like to attend on Tuesday, so that they can order your meal. New members are welcome to join this club, and Your Thursday Club at 2-4pm.

Club 365 is going ahead at the centre during the October break at the usual times of 11.30am-1.30pm.

CLASSES

A computer basics course will give technophob­es an introducti­on into using a computer with an SQA qualificat­ion available at the end. It runs from 9.3011.30am every Tuesday at the NCT Centre.

The centre also hosts a digital inclusion class on Mondays from 9.30-11.30am.

A family history group will also run at the Newmains computer suite, situated to the left of Newmains Primary School.

It takes place every Wednesday from 1.30-3.30pm. A computer basics course is also available in Newmains IT suite on Tuesdays from 1-3pm.

The food bank thanks everyone for their continued support and is open in the village at 1pm on Wednesdays.

The group are running low on tinned meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. It also requires pasta and rice meals, noodles, tea and coffee, and toiletries. Donations can be dropped off at the Asda Newmains store or handed in to Bonkle Church. PRAYER COURSE

The prayer course continues to run in the small hall of Coltness Church on Wednesdays. It will be a journey through the Lord’s Prayer, featuring video teaching from Pete Grieg. For further details, speak to Graham at Coltness Church.
