Braves stunned by impressive Shire

-

Caledonian Braves boss Ricky Waddell has urged his players to “take care of the club” after their three-goal defeat to East Stirling.

Second half goals from Reis Peggie, Bobby Barr and Jamie Dishingston completed a comfortable win at Alliance Park.

Braves gaffer Waddell admitted he was disappointed with his side and believes the Lowland League outfit have set higher standards.

“I thought we started very brightly and in the final part of the first half they started to cause us problems,” the manager said. “They lacked a bit of quality with their delivery in the final third, and so did we going forward.

“In the second half they got themselves in front and I just felt like whoever got themselves in front would go on to win the game.

“They got their goal and if we look at it again I don’t think it’s particularly brilliant defending from us.

“I had a chat with everyone involved at the club after the match and I said we need to raise our game.

“They are all good guys and good people who work hard. I just want them to have that real affection and care when they come in through the doors.

“We want them to want to take care of the club. We’ve everything behind the scenes in order and we need to make sure that on the pitch we work as hard as we can possibly work.

“At times were a bit fragmented, but East Stirling are an experienced team who have spent a lot of money – miles more than we have spent.

“I can say that as an excuse, but I truly believe that on their day my team can beat that team.”

He added: “We’ve got a lot of injuries but we need to start putting on a performance. We set objectives for the first 10 games and we’ve very close to our points objective.

“We will than have a review and see how we can get better.”

Shire took the lead after 48 minutes as Jordan Tapping set up Peggie to fire the ball from the edge of the box off the bottom right-hand post and into the net.

A tremendous solo-effort from Barr saw him round two Braves defenders and bury the ball in the left-hand corner after 69 minutes, before Dom Slattery clears the ball straight to Dishington just outside the six-yard box who easily slotted the ball home.
