Get onboard for breast cancer charity events
North Lanarkshire residents are being encouraged to pull on pink next Friday to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Wear it Pink Day, is one of a number of events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which runs throughout October.
Leading charities, Breast Cancer Now and Breast Cancer Care, merged in April this year, retaining the former’s name.
Breast Cancer Now’s fundraising event asks people to dress in pink and make a donation.
It’s the most common cancer in the UK and someone is diagnosed every 10 minutes.
One out of every seven women will develop the cancer during their lifetime, and men can also be diagnosed too.
A host of events, large and small, are going on throughout Scotland during the month to highlight the issue.
Among the biggest is The Show Scotland which will take place later this month. The fashion show features models who have all survived breast cancer.
If you’re out on the roads keep your eyes peeled for a pink double decker Boob Bus that’s driving around the country.
It’s been donated by bus operator Stagecoach to support Lorraine Kelly’s Change + Check campaign.
She revealed earlier this year that Lorraine show producer Helen Addis discovered she had breast cancer after a segment of the show focused on it, and she checked her breasts.
The bus will be driven by North Lanarkshire man Kevan Docherty and will have trained breast cancer nurses onboard.
A number of well-known retail companies have released pink versions of their products with a proportion of proceeds from sales of each going to the charity.
There’s everything from tea bags to clothing. Asda have a range of pink items on sale from Diet Coke to Ben & Jerry ice cream, and from Vaseline to slippers.
M&S and Damart have clothing items on sale and Skechers and Lulu Guinness have special edition shoes.
