Reason for plenty of cheer for Airdrie alt-rockers

- GREGOR FARQUHARSON

There’s a Reason you should go and see this popular Lanarkshire band.

Airdrie four-piece The Reason played to a healthysized crowd at a widely praised gig in Glasgow last month.

The young alt-rock group released their latest single Never Let Me Down during the summer and have been playing shows in support of the record ever since.

Martin Lynch, frontman of the band, told the Ticket: “It was so much fun to get back out and play.

“It was our first gig in a good while now and to see so many people down the front, especially that early in the night, was really special.”

The quartet comprises Martin (vocals/guitar), Bruce Murray (bass/vocals), Chris McCann (guitar/vocals) and Matthew Preston (drums).

Martin said: “The project started with all of us being from Airdrie. We’ve had a few different drummers and now we are three quarters Airdrie and one Muirhead, which isn’t too far away from us.

“We wrote our first song together in high school and we’ve slowly developed our song-writing in my house in Chapelhall.”

During the recent Glasgow gig the band played some new tracks as well as some of their old favourites.

Martin said: “It was fun to play new material and show people what we have been working on.

“The songs are old to us, especially Never Let Me

Down, but it’s so class hearing folk sing it back.”

Martin went on to explain how important playing the right gigs is for a band of their size.

“You need to be playing with similar bands”, he commented.

“We used to just play any gig we could, but playing the right gigs is so much more beneficial.”

And Martin highlighted an exciting future ahead for The Reason as he revealed there is much more to look forward to.

He said: “We need to let the new song have its time but after that we want to go big.

“We have plans to release four or five more tracks going into the future.

“It is so important to remain fresh.”
