Man tagged for growing cannabis

-

A man was caught growing cannabis plants worth up to £18,000 at his Shotts home.

Police found 29 plants in tents in two bedrooms, Hamilton Sheriff Court was told.

Daniel Jones, 32, of Byron Road, admitted producing the drug on November 29 last year.

Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said police went to the house with a warrant.

As well as the tents and plants, they discovered lights and plant food associated with a cannabis cultivation.

Sheriff Allan McKay told Jones the offence merited a prison sentence, but he was prepared to impose an electronic tagging order as an alternative.

Jones will be confined to his home between 9pm and 6am each day for five months.

A Gowkthrapple man who assaulted his mum and partner has been placed under supervision for 18 months.

Christopher Stafford will also be electronically tagged for six months, meaning he’s confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day.

Stafford, 27, of Heathfield, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted punching his mum, Lesley, on the head and pushing her on the body at another house in Heathfield on June 30.

Stafford also admitted chasing Gemma Curran, his partner, struggling with her and punching her on the head, again in Heathfield, while on bail on August 29.

He pleaded guilty to a further charge which stated that on the second occasion he shouted abuse, made threats and spat on a police vehicle.

A Craigneuk woman gave police a false name and date of birth after failing to attend court.

Erin Mimnaugh, 31, of Meadowhead Road, was this week ordered to do 65 hours of unpaid community work.

She was also electronically tagged for two months when she appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court. This keeps her confined to the house between 7pm and 7am each day.

Mimnaugh admitted breaching bail conditions by failing to attend court on June 27.

She also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice when she provided false details to officers on August 24.
