MSPs flu vaccine call
MSPs are calling on people to make sure they have their flu jab.
Alex Neil and Clare Adamson are urging consituents to stay up to date with their jabs.
This week, the Scottish Government launched its annual national flu vaccination programme.
They have put a focus on protecting those most vulnerable to illness, people with health conditions and children aged 2-5.
Every year thousands of children are hospitalised with flu.
Children with pre-existing conditions are especially at risk, but any child can become seriously ill.
Clare Adamson said: “The procedure takes a matter of minutes but it can prevent you from becoming seriously ill over the winter.
“I would urge my constituents to book an appointment with your GP as soon as possible.”
Influenza can be a deadly disease and is extremely common at this time of year.
David Cromie, consultant in public health medicine with NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Influenza is an unpredictable and serious disease that can cause significant illness, but also death.
“I would encourage everyone who is eligible for the influenza vaccine to take this quick and easy step to protect their health through vaccination.”
Alex Neil added:“The flu is no joke. There is plenty of misinformation about vaccines online – but it is important that parents trust the facts.
“If you or your children are eligible, make sure that getting the vaccination is a priority and book an appointment with your GP practice or health board as soon as possible.”
