A busy time at St Aidan’s High
Book Fair
Recently, the school librarian, Mrs McGough held the annual Scholastic Book Fair.
Students from S1 to S3 were able to visit the library during English to buy books.
There was a lot of cool stationery and handy school supplies available at the book fair that the students really loved.
The event was a huge success and many books were sold. Half of the funds raised by the book fair will go towards buying new books for the library. Charity netball match
In support of the school’s S5 students working with APD India this year the local netball team, Wishaw Fusions, put together a highly anticipated match against St Aidan’s High teachers.
Pupils, teachers and families made a donation at the door and there was also a large selection of raffle prizes to be won through the night, writes Daphne Miller.
Well done to Abbie Muldoon for organising this event which raised £518 for the group who are visiting India in the summer.
The matches were intense with the score for the night being 50-16 to the Fusions. Macmillan coffee morning
The school’s S6 fundraising committee hosted two Macmillan coffee mornings, one for staff at break and one for sixth year at lunch.
Staff and students brought in home baked and bought cakes, biscuits, and tablet for the event, writes Sophie Farrell.
Nearly £600 was raised for Macmillan.
Polish visit
St Aidan’s was recently given a fantastic opportunity to host for a group of 50 students and teachers visiting Scotland from Poland.
The students were welcomed by senior staff, the school captains and Polish students who attend St Aidan’s, writes Connie McMahon and Jack McClung.
Upon arrival, the visitors received a traditional performance of the bagpipes by Kerr Smillie.
Once they were officially welcomed by Mrs Connelly, both St Aidan’s and our Polish visitors gave presentations about the educational experience in Scotland and Poland. Afterwards they were given a tour around the school by our own Polish students.
Before leaving, they stayed for an early lunch and were later given another traditional performance by Highland Dancers Alicia Taylor and Niamh Donnelly. Royal Conservatoire Young Ambassadors
Senior students Zoe Robertson and Anthony McKenna from Coltness and St Aidan’s High Schools united this week to celebrate a unique achievement.
Violinist and pianist Zoe and saxophonist Anthony are the first young ambassadors for the Royal Conservatoire from the North Lanarkshire area, writes Daphne Miller.
Zoe said: “We attend a forum every month and discuss youth engagement by promoting opportunities in classical music.”
