Twin Atlantic to return with Motherwell show

-

Scottish rockers Twin Atlantic have announced details of their comeback - and it will be kick-started in Lanarkshire.

The group, known for bombastic rock hits like Free and Heart & Soul, have just unleashed new singe Novocaine on the world, with fourth album Power set to follow in January.

Frontman Sam McTrusty has promised the new record will show a new direction for the Glasgow lads. And the trio will be hitting the road soon after Power’s release, starting at Motherwell on March 3.

Bassist Ross McNae explained: “It’s interesting as it’s lots of different venues and towns – just thinking outside the box, do you want to see the band again in the same venue?

“We’re not playing Glasgow or Edinburgh on this run, we’re doing Motherwell (March 3), Aberdeen (March 4), Dundee (March 6) and Kilmarnock (March 7).

“We have done so much touring now, we didn’t want to be obvious and go the usual places but equally not tiny venues.

“It’s a mish-mash on these shows by design. We tried to go to paces we haven’t been for a while.”

Tickets for the gigs go on sale this Friday, and are certain to be snapped up quickly.

They’ll be some of the first chances to hear songs from Power played live, with the new tracks showing off a more electronic sound, inspired by the band’s nights out in the Scottish clubbing scene.

Sam said: ““We haven’t made a garage rock record. You do that, you will play in garages. We have made stadium songs.

“That’s not because I want the adulation that comes with stadiums, it just feels so good playing to a lot of people who are enjoying your music.

“I can hear this music being in movies and stuff. I just think ambition is infectious and the music sounds like it doesn’t have boundaries.”

After splitting from their previous label and management, the band have moved to Virgin/EMI.

That isn’t the only change though, with guitarist Barry McKenna, from Hamilton, moving away from the band.

He will still perform live wth the group, but is no longer involved in the studio process, as he wants to concentrate on his own work as a composer.

Ross added: “We were maybe not travelling in the same direction plus he’d been talking about wanting to explore composing.

“He is still an integral part of the band live – and will be on the road with us and a big part of the shows.

““It couldn’t be more amicable. We’re all going to tour an album together and we are all still best friends but he is concentrating on what he wants to do musically and we are doing what we want to.”

Tickets for the March tour are on sale this Friday. Go to gigsinscotland.com for more details.

Power is released on January 24.
