SHOTTS EYE UP HUGE CUP SHOCK

Bonny boss wants to stun top side Hurlford

- MARK PIRIE

Shotts Bon Accord boss Josh McKeown hopes to shock Hurlford in the blockbuster Junior Cup clash.

Bonny will welcome the Ayrshire Premier League side and there is an optimistic mood around Hannah Park.

McKeown admits that it will be a huge ask for the West Championship side, but reckons that could work in their favour this weekend.

“It’s looking like the tie of the round,” said the gaffer.

“We are the underdogs but it’s one that we are looking forward to.

“It’s a great game to be involved in. These are the types of games you want to be involved in as a manager.

“We want to go for it and hopefully it will attract a few more fans. It looks like it will be the tie of the round and a good one for the neutrals.

“We want to live up to that tag as tie of the round.”

He continued: “It takes the pressure off of us a bit going into the game, because they will be expected to come here and roll us over.

“It will be the case that they are expected to go through at this stage of the cup because of the size of club.

“I’ve managed at that level before when I was at Cumnock and there will be an expectation that they beat us and go far in the Junior Cup.

“For our players it’s a chance to show that there isn’t a big gulf between the teams.

“We have a lot of players who have played in the top division, or would like to play at that level. This is a great platform for them.”

With their game against Renfrew called off at the weekend, McKeown says he has no concern over “ring-rust” going into the Junior Cup tie.

He says that the break actually helped them as players have come back from injury and he was able to scout their 1-0 win over Pollok last weekend.

Boss McKeown added: “Since the start of the season we have had plenty of injuries. We are still carrying a few but things are getting better.

“Most of the squad should be available.”
