EK bar the place to be for live entertainment

One of East Kilbride’s most popular bars is looking hoping to become the ‘go to place’ for live entertainment in 2020.

Barocco Bar in the Village has a whole host of plans for the year ahead as they try to become the best place to visit for music fans.

That is helped with the recent appointment of the venues new entertainment manager, Colin Maciver.

Colin has been working in this role since September last year, and has already helped to boost the bar’s reputation for entertainment.

He has been involved with the bar since he started DJing at 18 and has his own company, CMC Discos.

He told the News: “This is a new role for the bar and something they haven’t really had before.

“After a big reshuffle of management, they wanted people to have dedicated roles about certain aspects of the bar.

“I volunteered myself as entertainment manager and they were more than happy to take me on.”

And he has already made his mark, totally revamping the weekly schedule at Barocco, catering to everyone’s needs and wants.

That includes a free Jukebox night on Mondays and poker night on a Tuesday. That’s followed by the popular ‘open mic night’ on Wednesday nights, which Colin admits he is “really excited” about.

He added: “It is open to anyone, you can bring your instruments and sing whatever you want, and you get a free drink if you perform.”

But it’s at the weekends that the party really gets started at the bar, with plenty happening from karaoke to DJ’s and live singers.

Colin said: “We identified a demand for a DJ for the younger crowd. People hate silence in pubs and bars, so having a DJ on takes away awkard silence.

“Our Saturday nights are jam packed full of singers and bands. We have some great bookings already, like RED, Warren Capaldi and Scott Wallace.

“We have some dates booked with Paige Turley too, but we don’t know how long she will be on Love Island . I hope she gets out soon and can showcase her amazing voice.”

Colin has also changed up the bar’s famous Sunday Karaoke night, which is already proving to be popular.

“We have a prize wheel for singers now and you can win an array of top prizes, like drinks and meals,” he said. “And if you sing the ‘mystery’ song, you will walk away with the cash jackpot.”
