Class acts showcase Braidhurst
Braidhurst High School pupils are on a winning streak at the moment.
Braidhurst pupils recently took part in The Vex Robotics Challenge, which is the world’s largest and fastest-growing robotics competition for secondary schools, universities and colleges.
The school fielded four robotic teams in the VEX Tower Take Over Challenge at New College Lanarkshire in Motherwell.
Competing against teams from other North Lanarkshire schools to progress to the UK regional finals in Telford, two of the Braidhurst teams were successful.
Members of the robotics club are now refining their skills in programming, problem solving, team-work and driving before they travel south for the final of the national competition.
Meanwhile, there was plenty of sporting success as the girls’ U18 football team recently defeated Kilmarnock Academy 4-1, with Summer Keenan and Amy Boyle scoring two goals each.
Congratulations to the girls, who now progress to the quarter-final of the Scottish Schools’ FA shield.
And Braidhurst’s S1 and S3/4 netball teams all scored victories against Cardinal Newman. Special recognition must go to the S3/4 team as Ellie Anderson scored a last minute goal to win the match.
The S1 netball player of the match was Kiera Richards, while the star S3/4 players were Summer Keenan and Ellie Anderson.
Another careers fayre for S3-S6 pupils and their parents/carers will take place in Braidhurst High on Monday, February 17 from 4pm until 6pm.
This event was a huge success last year, with a wide range of employers and providers in attendance sharing valuable careers information with pupils.
The school’s young workforce programme endeavours to support the aspirations of pupils and encourages them to achieve excellence as they embark on their post-school destinations.
Braidhurst’s My World of Work ambassadors: Olivia, Sharleen, Emily, and Rebecca, visited the school’s three cluster primaries on Tuesday, February 4 to deliver a fun employability workshop to each of the schools.
Activities delivered by the ambassadors included: an ‘Animal Me’ quiz where pupils learnt about their personalities and what animal describes them best, a fun ‘create your own toy’ task, and other activities which developed communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
